Regulate to Rise

Regulate to Rise is a transformative guide for leaders who are ready to move beyond pressure and burnout and into purpose and presence for maximum impact. Blending neuroscience, personal story, and practical tools, it reveals the often-overlooked key to effective leadership: nervous system regulation. Sam Willing, an executive coach with 25+ years in corporate Human Resources, shares the journey that changed everything—one that led her from over-functioning and stress to healing, clarity, and purpose. This book speaks directly to mission-driven leaders, founders, and his achievers who want to lead with more presence, not just performance. It explores how dysregulation silently drives decision-making and culture, and offers a new, human-centered approach to leadership. You’ll learn how to build internal steadiness in high-stakes moments, why “recover ins’t a luxury, it’s strategy,” and how to lead with purpose, peace, and resilience in every space you enter. This isn’t just a leadership book—it’s a return to your most authentic self, and a pathway to impact that doesn’t cost you your peace.

  • Regulate to Rise by Sam Willing is a game-changer for anyone in a leadership role. This book makes the science of nervous system regulation accessible, with actionable tools and inspiring stories to help leaders navigate the very real pressures of work. If every leader learned to regulate instead of just cope or lash out, our organizations—and the people in them—would thrive. Put this book in the hands of every leader you know.

-Laura Hamill, Ph. D., CEO Paris Phoenix Group and Author of The Power of Culture

  • Regulate to Rise gave me language and a repeatable framework for leading well when it’s hardest. Sam’s reminder that ‘joy is not the same as happiness’ clarified why chasing quick wins never steadies a team—and her question, ‘how do we lean into joy in the midst of suffering,’ is answered with practical tools that hold up in real pressure. She shows that regulated, values-aligned leadership isn’t soft; it’s the discipline that makes decisions wiser, cultures more human, and innovation more consistent. I recognized my own path in her framing of resilience—not avoiding emotion, but learning to ‘ride the wave’ with the confidence you’ll return to strong functioning—and I’ve used her pause-and-recalibrate approach to navigate tough seasons while showing up better for my family, my colleagues, and the people who rely on me. This book met me where I am and called me forward to lead with steadiness, authenticity, and connection.

  • Regulate to Rise is an invitation to step into something essential, something we’ve needed all along but perhaps haven’t had the courage—or the tools—to fully pursue. For years, my own focus has been on helping leaders live and lead with greater intentionality, especially when it comes to their development and their efforts to build trust. At a time when distrust has become the default in too many places, and when leaders are often stretched to the breaking point, the call to move from reactivity to intentionality has never been more urgent. Trust within us, trust between us, and trust around us—it all depends on leaders who are willing to do the deeper inner work. Sam Willing is such a leader. And this book is her courageous offering.
